Searching for contenders.

Sunday, December 30 2012 by Editor
Like a baseball team, I try to build contenders. I try to build contenders from the hands (riders and horses) I am dealt. The kids and adults come to me with goals and aspirations, and I attempt to coach them into successful horsemen and hopefully winners

Friday, December 14 2012 by Editor
By Jan Westmark-Allan You could win a chance to compete at FTI WEF – just like Lillie Keenan pictured here! Sidelines has a great time hosting contests and giving out fantastic prizes to equestrians all across the country. It’s fun for us to see how excited everyone is to enter – and of course we love the reaction of the contestants who win. Well hold on to your helmets, because Sidelines is about to offer the “Contest Of A Lifetime!” (I had to capitalize every word – the prize is that Big!) If you have ever dreamed of competing at the FTI Consulting Winter Equestrian Festival (FTI WEF) in Wellington, Florida – the winter show capital of the horse world – then your dream could become a reality

TDF Announces Region 9 Teaching Excellence Award Recipient

Wednesday, December 12 2012 by Editor
Susan Hancock   December 10, 2012 – Susan Hancock of La Vernia, Texas, received the fourth annual “USDF Region 9 Teaching Excellence Award” at the Great American/USDF Region 9 Championships held in Katy, TX, November 1-4, 2012.  She received a $5,000 award for demonstrating adherence to sound dressage principles and the ability to communicate these principles so that students develop themselves and their horses in a logical, progressive and humane way up through the levels. “The methods that Susan used to weave dressage theory into her lessons, along with guidance on the rider’s position, was one of the main reasons that Susan’s application was selected [by the National Selection Committee],” said Meg Flemming (TX), originator of the award. The Region 9 Teaching Excellence Award was established at The Dressage Foundation in 2009.  The purpose of the award is to showcase and honor excellence in dressage teachers.  Dressage instructors are nominated by students or peers, and then submit an application that is reviewed by a prominent Selection Committee.  In addition to being a USDF Region 9 member in good standing and a Region 9 resident, the recipient must also demonstrate adherence to sound dressage principles and have the ability to communicate these principles of training so that students develop themselves and their horses in a logical, progressive, and humane way up through the levels.  The recipient should also have a reputation for honesty, integrity, and community service.

All I Want For Christmas Is…A Forever Home!

Tuesday, December 11 2012 by Editor
By Jan Westmark-Allan Tank – a dog from Big Dog Ranch Rescue. All he wants for Christmas is a forever home!! Get ready for a “feel good” experience right now thanks to some cute puppy dog eyes! Yes, today’s blog is all about adopting a dog (not a horse) – but horse people are dog people, so it makes sense! My spotlight rescue is The Big Dog Ranch Rescue in Wellington, Florida is a not-for-profit no-kill shelter – and they do a great job of finding forever homes for their furry collection of dogs and puppies. I love their website and their ads – and now they have created a great YouTube video with Christmas music and a bunch of sad puppy dog eyes pleading that all they want for Christmas is a forever home! Very, very hard to resist! Some puppy dog eyes that are hard to resist!! Let Santa bring your family an adopted dog this Christmas! Enjoy the video and help Big Dog Ranch Rescue if you can.
