Every May, dressage riders from all over the southeast look forward to the May Day Qualifier, a USDF and USEF recognized show presented by Westwind Events of Archer, Florida. This year, the May 10-11 show is moving to the Florida Horse Park (FHP) in Ocala, Florida. Currently, the horse park is building a covered arena and stabling to host large, international shows. May Day will offer levels from introductory to Grand Prix, with a $1,000 Musical Freestyle Challenge. Westwind Events is known for producing professional, fun, laid back shows with beautiful awards, excellent scheduling, great judges, and a friendly staff. Look for the prize list on the FHP website and interested vendors and sponsors can call 352-328-6112.
Them’s the breaks – but we are still sorry to hear that Doug Hundt, of Show Chic, started out 2014 by breaking his hip. Luckily, he is on the mend and we look forward to seeing him back at the shows this month!
Ups and downs for Dr. Andrea Bayer – she lost her retired dressage horse, 007 (Bond) just two weeks before her new horse, Fortune Cookie, arrived from Europe. We wish you lots of good fortune with your new horse.
Congratulations! The Dressage Foundation has announced that a total of $10,000 has been awarded to U.S. dressage instructors through the Major Anders Lindgren Scholarship program, funded through The Dressage Foundation’s Carol Lavell Gifted Memorial Fund. The recipients included: Reese Koffler-Stanfield, of Georgetown, Kentucky, who was awarded the $6,000 Lindgren Scholarship. Reese is a USDF Certified Instructor through 4th Level and has earned her USDF Bronze, Silver, Gold and Gold Freestyle Bar medals. She plans to use the funds to train with Kathy Connelly. Gina Duran, of Livermore, California, is the recipient of a $2,000 Lindgren Scholarship. She has earned her USDF Gold Medal and is a USDF Certified Instructor through 2nd Level. Gina will use the scholarship to train with Rachel Saavedra. Jami Kment, of Palmyra, Nebraska, was also awarded a $2,000 Scholarship. She has earned her Bronze, Silver, and Gold Medals and is a USDF “L” Program graduate. Jami will use the scholarship to train with Kathy Connelly.
