Junior Blues

Junior riders are rocking the results at shows everywhere – and Sidelines wants to congratulate all of them and share their good news! If you know a junior who deserves to be recognized, send in a paragraph detailing their award-winning news, with a photo, to jan@sidelinesnews.com.

Madison Sellman, of New York, rode the adorable Sweet Treat, owned by Sarazen LTD, to the Large Pony Hunter Championship at the Buffalo International Horse Show. Madison proved that competing is certainly sweet and a treat, especially if you are riding a pony named Sweet Treat. Congratulations on your victory Madison! Photo © 2011 Kendall Bierer/PMG

Kate Taylor and her pony Quicksilver Butterfly rode away with the Small/Medium Pony Hunter Championship as well as the Pony Hunter Grand Championship at the Buffalo International Horse Show. The eight-year-old rider from Pittsford, New York, has a bright future ahead of her and we will be seeing lots more of this dynamite rider. Photo © 2011 Kendall Bierer/PMG

Sophie St.Clair, 12, of South Pasadena, California, trains with Belgian rider David Sterckx. Over the summer Sophie went to Belgium with her trainer and other riders from her barn. They rode in two shows in Incourt, Belgium and took part in a clinic with World Champion Philippe LeJeune. Sophie said, “It was my first trip to Europe but it has given me a glimpse of what I'd like to do with my riding in the future.” Photo by Bret St.Clair

Alexandra Fyffe, 14, of Newmarket, New Hampshire, showed Twist for her trainer during the summer to multiple wins, but the day after this photo was taken she had an accident while riding a sale horse and ended up in a cast and on crutches. The talented honor role student who is planning on being a veterinarian is looking forward to getting back in the saddle as soon as she gets her cast off. Get well soon Alex! Suzanna Curtis, 16, of Morgan, Utah, and her horse Amazing Grace competed at the 2011 Area IX Championships in the Training Championship division and ended up Reserve Champion. “We were 2nd out of 18 and finished on our dressage score of 33.5 moving up from third to second after stadium jumping,” Suzanna said. Lilly Ulrich, of New York, rode Up the Creek Farm’s Nureev Du Houssoit into the winner’s circle multiple times at the Buffalo International Horse Show. Lilly won the ASPCA Maclay Horsemanship Qualifying Class, the USEF/Pessoa Hunter Seat Medal and was named Best Child Rider. Congratulations on being a home state hero Lilly! Kate Doos, 15, of Fresno, California, competed her eight-year-old Thoroughbred Doozey at the Ram Tap Three Day Event in the Junior Beginner Novice division. The day started out with bad weather and rain but by the end of the day it was clear – just like Kate and Doozey who came away with a double clear round. Kate, who trains with Megan Bittle, said, “Our ride was perfect and it was a great experience.” Way to go Kate! Photo by Emma Doos
